IELTS Cue Card -Describe Your Favourite Food

IELTS SPEAKING TASK CUE CARD:

Describe Your Favourite Food

You should say:

-what types of food do you like

-where it is found

-And why do you like it so much

Sample Answer-1

I am accustomed to eating different types of food. I like Chinese cuisine, Bangladeshi cuisine as well as fast food.

My favorite food includes hilsha fish, hot and spicy beef, boiled rice, and tea as a drink.

These types of food are available almost everywhere in Bangladesh. I am pretty sure that many people in my country like these items of food.

To me, hilsha fish is the tastiest fish and beef is the tastiest meat. The hilsha fish is especially tasty if fried hard and beef is the most delicious when cooked with much spice and chili.

They combine well with boiled rice. I try to eat them whenever I can.

Once hilsha fish and beef were pretty cheap and could be found in great quantities, nowadays the supply of these items has been reduced to a great extent, and are considered luxury items.

Sample Answer-2

The subject of my gastronomic preference centers around sushi, an esteemed Japanese culinary creation characterized by compact rolls of vinegar-infused, cold-cooked rice complemented with raw fish, assorted vegetables, and additional ingredients such as avocado, cucumber, and crab meat.

Sushi’s composition commences with the amalgamation of specially prepared sushi rice, which undergoes cooking in conjunction with vinegar, sugar, and salt, thereby imparting it with a distinctive amalgamation of flavors and textures.

Subsequently, this rice is meticulously shaped into diminutive, bite-sized portions, each of which serves as a canvas for the application of carefully selected and expertly prepared raw fish or vegetables, a task entrusted to the skilled hands of sushi chefs.

The allure of sushi has transcended international borders, attaining increasing popularity in numerous countries, rendering it an accessible culinary choice in a multitude of major global metropolises.

In my own homeland, sushi establishments are widespread, predominantly found within major urban centers, and are frequently situated within the upscale precincts of Japanese dining establishments and dedicated sushi bars.

My personal fondness for sushi can be attributed to an array of factors. Primarily, it is esteemed as a virtuous dietary selection, possessing a high nutritional profile characterized by a generous protein content, abundant omega-3 fatty acids, and a complement of other vital nutrients.

Secondly, sushi emerges as a versatile repast, capable of accommodating a broad spectrum of palates and preferences through the customization of its constituents. Lastly, the social dimension of consuming sushi is an aspect that I particularly relish.

Given its penchant for being served in diminutive portions, it lends itself well to communal dining, fostering conviviality as it permits the exploration of diverse flavor profiles through shared consumption.

Sample Answer-3

I have a deep appreciation for food, and picking just one favorite is a tough task.

Nonetheless, if I had to make a choice, there’s a special treat that I indulge in from time to time—a culinary delight that I want to share with you.

I’ll describe the food, its preparation, my reasons for loving it, and what sets it apart as my favorite. Perhaps, by the end, you’ll be convinced to give it a try if you haven’t already.

The food I’m talking about is quite straightforward, often regarded as a Greek specialty, although some claim its origins trace back to Egypt.

Can you guess what it is? Hummus. I adore it. The spelling differs in American English, where it’s called hummus, while in British English, we use an ‘o’ and a ‘u’—houmous. Despite the spelling variations, the recipe remains the same in both cases.

IELTS Cue Card- Your Favorite Food

Essentially, hummus is a blend of cooked, mashed chickpeas with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and garlic.

While it’s popular in the Middle East, North Africa, and globally in Middle Eastern cuisine, it holds a special place in my heart.

I’m quite selective about the one I buy, and fortunately, I live close to an exceptional delicatessen run by a charming couple—an Italian gentleman and a vintage Yorkshire lady.

They craft their own houmous using the finest virgin olive oil and copious amounts of the freshest garlic available.

It may be a bit pricey, but the quality surpasses my attempts at making it myself, for reasons I can’t quite fathom.

What draws me to it? Partly the texture, partly the taste—I have a particular fondness for garlic.

Moreover, being a vegetarian, it aligns with my preference for healthy options, offering ample protein and quality fats.

While it’s possible to overindulge, I believe the benefits far outweigh any concerns.

Hummus is my favorite not only because of its delectable taste but also because it fosters communal enjoyment.

Best consumed as a dip among friends, I meticulously prepare an array of colorful crudités—carrots, cucumber, and celery—alongside slices of warm pitta bread.

A bottle of crisp white wine completes the ensemble. As we gather, laughter and conversation flow freely, creating a delightful atmosphere to savor this fabulous food.

Sharing hummus becomes more than just a meal; it’s a shared experience that brings people together.
