Subject: Congratulations on winning a scholarship
My Dear Jevin,
I congratulate you heartily on your having won a first-grade scholarship. I feel very much elated at this happy news.
Though I have won no scholarship. I shine in reflected glory and take pride in having a friend who is an exceptionally brilliant student.
Believe me, when I received the news I felt very happy. A few of my local friends who know you ask me to convey their felicitations to you.
My parents are also glad to learn of your grand success and send you their congratulations.
I felicitate you once again and wish you better success next time.
Your loving Friend
Robin
You have got admitted to the B.Sc. in Computer Science Program at London Metropolitan College. You will have to start your study there at the beginning of the next month. The college let you know that there is no room in the dormitory and you will have to make arrangements for your own living accommodation. You have a friend in London. Now write an email to him explaining the matter and requesting him to arrange for your housing.

Subject: Arrangements of Accommodation
Dear George,
It is a long since I heard from you. You will be glad to know that I have decided to go to the U.K for higher study. I have already got admitted to the B.Sc. in Computer Science Program in London Metropolitan College and received my visa from the British High Commission. My flight is scheduled for the last week of this month and my classes at in London Metropolitan College will start from the 6th day of the next month.
This is indeed a great problem for me that the college can not allot me a seat in the dormitory as there is no vacancy. I was late to apply and in the meantime, all the seats have been booked. Now I, myself, will have to arrange for my accommodation.
You know you are the only one I know in London. So, I was wondering if you could help me find suitable accommodation. The place should be within the walking distance of my college or somewhere I can get public transport such as bus or train to the college easily. Even I can share your place if you have room and the rent is within my capacity. I can afford 300.00 pounds per month for house rent.
I am looking forward to receiving an early response from you.
Yours ever,
Richard
You borrowed some books from your college library. You must go to visit a sick relative, so you cannot return the books on time.
Write an email to the library. Let them know what’s happened and what you plan to do about it.

Subject: Regarding returning borrowed books
Dear Sir/ Madam,
My name is john sanders. I am a student of this college. This letter is about some books that I borrowed from the college library eight days ago for seven days and was supposed to return them yesterday. Now I am going to explain why I failed to do so.
In fact, I finished studying the books and was ready to return them on time but, unfortunately, yesterday at about 2 in the morning I received an urgent phone call from the NewYork police station saying that my uncle who was visiting NewYork, had a road accident and was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center. I rushed there immediately. He is not out of danger yet. The doctors say that they can not predict anything about him until 72 hours have passed. Now I am writing an email from the hospital.
I hope to return to my place after my uncle gets better and return the books because there is no one else here at this moment to look after him.
Under the circumstances, I trust you understand the seriousness of the matter and will kindly waive any fines that may have accumulated.
Yours faithfully,
Richard

Subject: Regarding overdrawn Bank Deposit
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing this letter in connection with a letter I received from you yesterday stating that my account with your bank is $500 overdrawn and that you will be charging me $170 which will be taken directly from my account.
After reading your letter, in the beginning, I was very disappointed. How this could happen? But when I looked at the account statement, everything became clear to me. On June 19, 2005, I called your bank and the duty officer confirmed me that the cheque had been cleared. But, somehow, that amount was not credited to my account and is missing in the statement. The photocopy of the concerned deposit slip has been enclosed herewith for your perusal.
So, the mustache is definitely on your part and I expect you to make the necessary adjustments to my account immediately. Please let me know in writing with a corrected copy of my account statement as soon as you can make the change.
Your prompt response would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you
Yours faithfully
Richard

Subject: Regarding Selling Some Furniture
Dear John,
How are you? Hope that you are doing fine. You know, my father has retired from his government job. Now we have to leave the flat he got as a government employee. From the money of his provident fund we have bought a small flat in Dallas and are planning to shift there within the next few days. But the problem is with our furniture. As you have seen, the pieces of our furniture are big, strong and heavy. It will be very difficult for us to make room for them in the new flat.
One of the pieces of our furniture that we have to dispose of is our big mahogany dining table. I remember you praised it a few times. Perhaps you can recall it-it is with a black glass top. Eight people can comfortably sit in it. Eight matching chairs will also go with it.
As a friend, we will be pleased to let you have it at a good price. Besides, my mother doesn’t want to sell it to a stranger. She treasures it but won’t mind if it goes to you.
Look, why don’t you come around and have another look at it the next Friday?
Yours ever,
Richard
